General Surgery Department

General surgery, despite its name, is a surgical specialty that focuses on surgical treatment of abdominal organs, e.g. intestines including oesophagus, stomach, colon, liver, gallbladder and bile ducts, and often the thyroid gland and hernias.

Mr Khan is a consultant general surgeon whose sub-speciality is minimally invasive (laparoscopic) surgery. His special clinical interests in Surgical Oncology (breast, melanoma, gastro-intestinal and endocrine surgery). His research interests are in breast cancer, melanoma management and laporoscopic surgery.

Mr Khan was appointed a Consultant General Surgeon in 1989, and has trained at;

The varied experience has resulted in Mr Khan being able to undertake Paediatric Surgery, Urology, Hepatobiliary, Endocrine, Vascular and Surgical Oncology.

In 1990, Mr Khan was awarded Master of Surgery by the University of London and since then has given regular presentations and lectures. He has lectured on surgical oncological topics (breast, colorectal, melanoma etc), Paediatric surgery and minimally invasive surgery (laparoscopic), and has been published in these subjects in peer review journals. Mr Khan is an Honorary Senior Lecturer at King's College Hospital and the American University of the Caribbean.

Mr Khan practices at the Medway NHS Trust, and for private patients at the BUPA Alexandra Hospital in Walderslade, Fawkham Manor Hospital in Longfield and also at the Somerfield Hospital in Maidstone, Kent.
