Gynaecology Department

Gynaecology is the study of conditions and diseases relating to women, specifically problems that are associated with reproductive and sexual functions in women. Mr Penman is a Consultant Gynaecologist and Specialist in Fetal Medicine with 10 years experience as an NHS Consultant. He now practices independently at Spire Alexandra Hospital and the Kings Hill Medical Centre. Mr Penman's Gynaecology interests include the management and treatment of menstrual dysfunction, polycycstic ovary syndrome (PCOS), subfertility, pelvic pain and the investigation and management of recurrent miscarriage. His gynaecological surgical expertise includes minimal access (laparoscopic/hysteroscopic) treatment of PCOS, menorrhagia (heavy periods) and pelvic pain due to adhesions/endometriosis.

Mr Penman is also a specialist in Fetal Medicine dealing with prenatal (before birth) screening for fetal abnormalities and invasive diagnostic procedures (amniocentisis/CVS) as well as management of high risk pregnancies. Pregnancy ultrasound scans including 3D and 4D scans are performed by Mr Penman himself. He has a particular interest in congenital abnormalities of the fetal gastro-intestinal tract and abdominal wall and also of cleft lip. Mr Penman has published a number of scientific papers and lectured at National and International Medical conferences on these subjects.

Mr Penman is the son and grandson of doctors who like him studied at St Thomas' Hospital in London. He has worked as a research registrar at St Thomas' and Queen Charlotte's Hospital in London. Mr Penman gained his clinical registrar experience on the St George's Hospital rotation and completed his Gynaecological and Obstetric training as well as his Specialist training in Fetal Medicine at St Michael's Hospital in Bristol.

Mr Penman is married to Helen and is the proud father of 16 year old triplets and a 6 year old.
