X-rays, ultrasound, CT and MR are the different technologies applied to create images of the human body to help in the diagnosis and screening of disease. Each one of the technologies is selected in the creation of images, depending upon the area of the human body and the disease in question.
In addition to the diagnostic images, these various technologies are also used for tissue biopsy, drainage procedures, tumour ablation, vascular stenting, embolisation, thrombolysis etc.
The CT and MR technologies are now so advanced that they are able to provide accurate road mapping prior to surgery. To put it simply, one is able to visualise the inside of the human body without having to open it.
